In September 2007, a team of astronomers from the US and UK released some of the clearest pictures ever taken of outer space. The pictures were obtained the though the use of the new “adaptive optics” system which sharpens pictures taken from the Palomar Mountain Observatory. The resolution attained exceeds that of the Hubble Space Telescope by a factor of 2. These images were recorded on the cameras 512 megapixel CCD sensor.
